Ukrainian Bride Customs Continued

Ukrainian people have a strong drive to succeed despite being kind and caring. They strive to be the best at everyone, including raising kids, cooking, cleaning the house, pursuing a vocation, and satisfying their spouses. Therefore, it should not come as a surprise that Ukrainian beliefs are deeply ingrained with value. It can be difficult to maintain these deeply ingrained traditions, but the effects are well worth it.

While some beliefs change with the times and institutional standards, wedding rites are a constant that are seriously embedded in Ukraine society. Matchmaking, observing, the bachelorette celebration, and the real meeting are the four required steps in the Ukrainian bridal ceremony.

A groom and his relatives would bring gifts to the bride’s house during the matchmaking festival. The girl would then be asked to accept the groom’s marriage proposal, and if she did, her relatives and starosty (older married men from the community serving as judges) would get present to start the relationship period.

During this time, the bridegroom must purchase his future family from her family, which is typically done by giving her a container of horilka and an embroidery made of rushnyk that represents the beginning of their fresh career along. The rushnyk serves as a symbol of harmony between the two families.

The newlyweds are welcomed by their kids with bread, salt, beverage, and starosty on the ceremony time. A significant circular loaf of bread with a cross in the center and sodium on top is likewise served, or korovai. The honeymooners are said to receive good fortune and fate from this breads.

The bride or her foot will then be taken by the wedding and his best person. The compensation is then due from the partners, who must either pay it in cash or by completing a series of amusing tasks. The wedding may be revealed and the ceremony may start after the task or payment is finished.

Bouquets are placed on the woman’s minds during the real meeting to declare them the king and queen of their respective households. The couple finally raises a glass of prosecco to commemorate their passion for one another and the union of their existence.

Ukrainians do never adhere to this superstition, in contrast to the United States, where it is considered terrible fortune to see the wedding before the bridal. The bride wears all-white during the meeting and has her veil draped over her mouth. The wedding does remove her outfit after the ceremony to reveal her real color, which is customarily reddish and represents purity. Last but not least, the handful climbs up the red-embroidered rushnyk to represent their fresh union and establish a connection with their ancestors. The pair may then receive a smooch and rings as their crowns. It can be difficult to preserve Ukrainian customs, but it’s important for people to do so in order to protect their identification and identity. Young generations is respect their ancestors and uphold these customs for years to come by combining the old and the new.
